Answers To Your Questions About Container Herb Gardening

Thomas asks…

I need some help with starting a container herb garden ?

i want to know if i can grow oregano, basil, sage, rosemary, thyme, tarragon, chives, and parsley together in one container.because i live in the mojave dessert in ca and i want to grow a culinary herb garden indoors. Also could you tell me what type of potting soil/potting mix.

Green Thumb answers:

I prefer Miraclegro potting soil.

Rosemary and Oregano definitely need their own pots. Sage and thyme could share a container, basil, parsley, and tarragon in another. All herbs want full, all day sun and would rather be in the ground as opposed to pots. Indoors they’ll tend to become “leggy” reaching for light. You can supplement the light with grow lights.

Ken asks…

I am thinking of starting an herb container garden. Where or what garden center can I purchase the herb seeds?

I checked out Walmart but no luck.

Green Thumb answers:

Really? My Walmart still has them! So does Lowe’s and Home Depot. Try any plant nursery.

Sandra asks…

Can you make a container herb garden with wicker baskets?

Seen this o n a TV show. Won’t they mold.

Green Thumb answers:

If you put a water proof liner in the baskets before you plant they shouldn’t mold. Keep them dry.
