How to I find websites that have organic or animal friendly clothing?

I would like a list of website, or a website that offers a list of clothing stores/website that have environmentally conscience clothing.

Green Thumb answers:

PETA has a good list for clothing, make-up, etc.

Also go to Pangea’s website (www.veganstore.com) or www.thegreenloop.com, www.shopenvi.com

Vegetarian Times’s website/magazine features tons of vegetarian/eco-friendly clothing and products.

Susan asks…

Places to get CHEAP organic clothing?

I am looking to find an online store that has cheap organic clothing (Tees for under $10 , Pants for under $25, Hats for under $20 etc) I am a college student and paying $50 for a shirt and $75 for pants is way out of my budget but I am looking to do my part for the environment. Plus i just need new clothing

Green Thumb answers:

LotusOrganics.com has some good deals on tees and such..i also found some reasonably priced pants…

Exclusivelygreenmarket.com also has some lower priced organic clothing..

But for the most part, you are not going to find very inexpensive organic clothes because of many reasons..first of all it is more expensive to grow than the conventional cotton. Organic cotton is also more expensive to harvest and manufacture. Also, the market for organic clothing is relatively small, so until a higher demand is done, the prices will continue to soar.

So, you may hav to spend a little extra money for organic clothing, or just stay away from specific brands such as faded glory that uses desperately poor woman and children 13 hours a day, for 13 cents an hour.

Just watch what you are buying and continue to try to stay green..good luck and i hope this helped..:)

Jenny asks…

I’m looking to start up a large scale organic “walmart” with everything from food to clothing. Any Name Ideas?

I am currently Majoring in Business and Environmental Studies, and my city is seeing a population boom, but we only have 3 or 4 good health food stores, and they are all under 3000sqft. I am steadily working on business plans, but then name itself just isn’t coming to me. It will be a large scale store with natural local produce, the latest organic foods, herbs, and vitamins, as well as clothing, bedding, office supplies, maybe even furniture.

Green Thumb answers:

The Green Store

EcoMart

GreenMart

The Green Grocer Boutique

Organix  grocery & more

sounds like a great idea! Good Luck!

Finding organic cotton clothing and reasons to wear it?

Hi there, I’ve been looking for some stylish organic clothing, here are 2 websites I’ve found:

http://www.appareloftheearth.com/catalog/index.php

http://www.moralfervor.com/

I’ve also been told Wal-Mart carries organic clothing but I don’t support Wal-Mart so that it out.

I’m looking to see if you know any other places I can get some green clothing.

I also am looking for solid reasons to convince my husband to try wearing organic clothing. I have my own list, I just want to hear your take on how I can convince him to just try it (guys, I could use your help especially!!)

Green Thumb answers:

There are a ton of websites that carry orgainic clothing. A little on the pricey side, but in the long run, worth it. You can find some of them advertised in the back of Veggie News, Yoga Journal, and Fit Yoga.

JC Penneys had some ladies night clothes that were organic. I bought 4 of them. They also sell bamboo blankets and sheets. I LOVE mine!

Places that sell Danskin (Walmart is one of them for those who still shop there)- that company has an organic line. I have several outfits from them.

For those of us who do sew, check out your fabric stores. Bamboo is on bolts, and hemp is too. It is pricey though.

Why do I choose orgainic?

I want to practice what I preach. I may not be able to buy everything at once, but when I am shopping for a new piece to replace a woren one, I choose organic material and am slowly rebuilding my wardrobe.

The clothing seems to last longer, be of better quality, and in clothing pieces that seem to be in a timeless style – so I am, in the long run, saving money.

I want to know what I put “on” my body is as important as what goes “in” my body. I do not want a bunch of man made chemicals in my clothing, leeching out every time I sweat, every time I wash, every time I move…

I want to be able to help support those who believe in the same things I do. The more people choose ‘organic/natural’, the better message we will send to those who make clothing (among other things).

Good luck convincing your Husband…it took me a couple years to do that with mine…once he started wearing the clothing, and could feel how much more superior it was (and better at natural breathing – thus, keeping him cooler), he was hooked.
