It would be hard for makeup to be truly organic, meaning no chemicals or chemical altering. Cosmetic ingredients are regulated by the FDA and must be considered safe for cosmetic use to be included in the product.
Even minerals are “cleaned” to remove naturally occurring toxins that you would NOT want on your face! Colorants are made in labs in order to be pure and safe for cosmetic use.
So…if someone is claiming their cosmetic products are “organic” I’d reasearch it a bit before reaching for your wallet!

Mark asks…
What are the pros and cons of organic and mineral makeup?
I see all this organic and mineral makeup at the drug stores now… but they are so expensive! What’s so great about them that they’re so expensive like that? And what’s the negatives? I’m considering on sampling a couple brands but I don’t want my money to go to waste on makeup even though a good amount already does get paid to get the drugstore makeup that I use!
Anything I should know beforehand about certain brands? What the pros and cons are for these makeups? Thanks!

Green Thumb answers:
The big con is there is no organic standard for cosmetics so any cosmetic can be called organic even if there are zero organic ingredients in that cosmetic (or any beauty or soap product, for that matter) Beauty products are controlled by the FDA. The organic certification program is controlled by the USDA and has no control over anything in the FDA’s realm
See http://www.organicconsumers.org and participate in their national campaign to put organic standards on cosmetics so when you buy organic make-up it really is organic make-up.

Chris asks…
Do you know any natural/organic makeup companies on the market that benefit the skin?
Specifically I’m looking for a concealer that gives good coverage but is also good for the skin. I know that there is a company called the Balm that has Vitamins and minerals in it. Is that company any go? ALso, I’m looking for a foundation that is not liquidy or caky and can be smoothly applied on the skin.

Try bare minerals. Natural and fantastic. I bet more people will say the same and add details.

Robert asks…
What is the best organic makeup available in Canada?
I’ve looked at Origins and their products look amazing, the only problem is their products cost a lot and I don’t have 110 dollars for everything I need. Burt’s bees won’t do seeing as it contains honey…
Here’s a list of things I’m looking for:
Liquid foundation
Pressed powder
Blush (in pink tones)
Eye brow pencil(s) or powder
Mascara.
Thanks for your help it’s much appreciated

If you’ve ever seen Physician’s Formula in your local drugstore, they carry a line (I think at Shopper’s Drug Mart) that is Organic. It’s called “Physician’s Formula Organic Wear” A lot of people I know use Physician’s Formula so it looks promising.
Press Control + F and search for “Organic” and it should come up.

Jenny asks…
Does anybody know of a good organic makeup line?
I’m looking for one that’s affordable…I don’t want to buy $45 foundation.
Thanks!
